About OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) ocd stress

What is OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by recurring, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions). These thoughts and actions often create significant distress and interfere with daily activities, relationships, and overall quality of life.

  • Obsessions are intrusive, distressing thoughts, images, or urges that repeatedly enter a person's mind. Common obsessions include fear of contamination, concerns about symmetry, or intrusive violent or taboo thoughts.
  • Compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to alleviate the distress caused by obsessions. Examples include excessive handwashing, checking locks or appliances repeatedly, or counting in a specific pattern.

Although OCD is a chronic condition, it is highly treatable with the right support and interventions, allowing individuals to lead fulfilling lives.

Our treatment for OCD

Our psychiatry hospital provides a compassionate, evidence-based approach to treating OCD. We offer the following treatments:

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Specifically, a technique called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is effective for OCD. ERP involves exposing individuals to their obsessions in a controlled environment while helping them resist engaging in compulsive behaviors.
  2. Medication:
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a type of antidepressant, are often prescribed to help manage OCD symptoms by balancing brain chemistry.
  3. Psychotherapy:
Individual or group therapy provides a safe space to discuss feelings, learn coping mechanisms, and understand the underlying factors contributing to OCD.
  4. Mindfulness and Stress Management:
Techniques like mindfulness meditation and relaxation exercises can reduce anxiety and help individuals regain control over their thoughts and behaviors.
  5. Individualized Treatment Plans:
Each person’s experience with OCD is unique, and we design personalized treatment plans to meet specific needs and goals, ensuring effective care.
